1. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Flows:
FDI Flows in Brunei Darussalam recorded a positive net inflow of BND219.8 million in 2025. This growth was driven by an increase in debt instruments, which valued at BND473.8 million, as FDI companies in Brunei Darussalam incurred new debts (loans) from their parent and sister companies abroad. However, equity investments decreased in 2025, totaling -BND254.0 million, due to lower profits reinvested and higher dividend payments.
The highest FDI flows into Brunei Darussalam were recorded in the Manufacturing sector, amounting to BND497.8 million. This was followed by Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities, which accounted for BND101.0 million, and Wholesale and Retail Trade, amounting to BND27.8 million.
2. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Stock:
FDI stock increased by 5.8 per cent, from BND8,567.6 million in 2024 to BND9,060.6 million in 2025. This increase was mainly driven by a rise in debt instruments by 38.4 per cent, amounting to BND2,043.6 million. However, there was a decrease in equity stock by 1.0 per cent (BND7,017.0 million).
The Manufacturing sector remained the largest contributor to FDI stock by the end of 2025, accounting for 44.1 per cent, followed by the Mining and Quarrying sector at 29.7 per cent, and Financial and Insurance Activities at 14.6 per cent. By country, Hong Kong SAR was the main contributor to FDI stock in Brunei Darussalam, contributing 40.0 per cent, followed by the United Kingdom at 27.8 per cent and the Netherlands at 10.9 per cent.
