Census & Survey
JPES regularly conducts censuses and surveys of households and businesses to gather the latest information.
A census is the procedure of systematically acquiring and recording information about all members of a given population, whereas a survey is conducted with sampling in which information is obtained only from a subset of a population.
The regular programme of censuses and surveys are as follows:
ANNUAL CENSUS OF ENTERPRISES

The main objective of Annual Census of Enterprises (ACE) is to collect latest information on the size, structure and economic activity characteristics of business enterprises in the private sector business, particularly relating to the micro, small and medium enterprises.
ACE is conducted annually starting 2015, in addition to the Economic Census which is only conducted every 5 years. Results from ACE will provide more frequent and up-to-date information on the profile of private sector businesses to assist in the planning, research and policy making related to the development of the private sector in contributing towards the country’s economic growth.
ACE 2023 collects information for the references year 2021 & 2022

POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS

The main objectives of BPP 2021 are:
20 January 2021 to 21 February 2021
20 April 2021 to 21 June 2021

JPES has introduced an online open data platform, Interactive Data Visualisation. The Interactive Data Visualisation contains information on the profile of the population, households and housing units based on the findings of the Population and Housing Census (BPP) 2021 which includes summary statistics such as the number of populations, households and occupied housing units, sex ratio and residential status ratio according to the geographical distribution of the country in district, mukim and village level.

LABOUR FORCE SURVEY

The main objective of a Labour Force Survey (LFS) is to collect latest information on the size, structure, distribution and characteristics of the labour force, employment, unemployment and other economic characteristics of the population, which will be used to assist in the planning, research, policy-making and management concerning the labour force in the country.
HOUSEHOLD EXPENDITURE SURVEY

The main objective of a Household Expenditure Survey (HES) is to collect latest and comprehensive information on the expenditure and income of households. The results are used to revise the list and weightings of goods and services for the Consumer Price Index (CPI), and provide inputs for the compilation of national accounts.
Each selected household is involved in the survey for a period of one month only. The survey requires a period of 12 months to take into account the variation of seasonal expenditures such as during festive seasons, back-to-school and school holidays. The selected households are required to record all daily expenditures by each member as well as the income received during the month.
Key statistics derived is on average monthly expenditure per household in the country according to expenditure categories such as food, clothing, accommodation, transport, education, medical and other expenditures including expenditures abroad.
HES is conducted every 5 years. HES 2015/16 is currently being conducted starting from 1 April 2015 until 31 March 2016.
POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS UPDATE

The main objective of Population and Housing Census Update (KBPP) 2016 is to update the number and information regarding the population obtained from the Population and Housing Census (BPP) 2011, which includes demographic, education and employment characteristics; as well as to update the number and listing of housing units throughout the country to be used for future censuses and surveys.
ECONOMIC CENSUS

The main objective of the Economic Census is to collect complete and up-to-date information relating to the economic activities undertaken by businesses in this country in order to measure the current levels of economic activity and changes in the structure of the commercial and industrial sectors at the national level.
The census provides valuable information for a more detailed analysis of the various industries with regards to its production structure such as sales or revenue, production cost, employment and investment. The data also provides inputs for the compilation of national accounts for Brunei Darussalam.
The census is conducted every 5 years. The latest was EC 2011, which collected data for the reference year 2010.
POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS

A Population and Housing Census counts the number of inhabitants as well as the households and living quarters in a country and provides a statistical profile of the population and households.
The census is conducted every ten years and the latest was the Population and Hosing Census (BPP) 2011. The earlier censuses were conducted in 1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001.

QUARTERLY SURVEY OF BUSINESSES
The Quarterly Survey of Businesses (QSB) is conducted every quarter to collect latest information regarding developments in business activities in the country. The survey covers selected companies and businesses for each economic activity.
The QSB is the major source of data for the compilation of the Quarterly Gross Domestic Product (QGDP) estimates and to measure the performance and the contribution of the private sector/businesses to the country’s economic growth
