Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) is committed to fulfil Wawasan Brunei 2035's goals of having a progressive and sustainable economic growth through having sound and comprehensive economic development blueprints, supported by high quality statistics and research.  DEPS is also responsible in administering the Price Control Act, Chapter 142; the Consumer Protection (Fair Trade) Order, 2011 in administering the Price Control Act, Chapter 142 and the Consumer Protection (Fair Trade) Order, 2011 and committed to enhance and committed to enhance market efficiency and safeguard the welfare of consumers in the country.

DEPS consists of three (3) Departments and one (1) section as follows:

o    DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING
o    DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS
o    DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS
o    CORPORATE AFFAIRS SECTION

CORE FUNCTIONS


In meeting the aspiration, DEPS is dedicated to accomplish the following core functions:

o    Analyse and monitor Brunei Darussalam’s economic development including its challenges and opportunities through comprehensive research in providing         
      strategic economic planning;

o    Conduct stakeholders' engagement and consultation sessions by providing the development of key macroeconomic indicators and its projections to guide
      stakeholders in formulating policies and strategies towards achieving dynamic and sustainable economy;

o    Produce and disseminate quality, comprehensive, timely, accurate and accessible statistics consistent with international standards and best practices to  support
      planning, implementation and monitoring of various activities in every aspects of the community and the nation in the context of national development;

o    Serve as the authority on national socio-economic statistics by coordinating the National Statistical System in relation to the collection, compilation and
      dissemination of statistics by governments agencies;

o    Implement and enforce Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Order, 2011 by providing mechanisms for consumers to seek redress against unfair practices and
      advocate consumer empowerment and smart consumer culture in promoting ethical and fair business environment; and

o    Administer and enforce Price Control Act to ensure essential goods achieve price stability.

Serves as Secretariat to the following:

(i)    Macroeconomic Development Committee;
(ii)    National Data Coordination Steering Committee; and
(iii)    National Development Plan Working Committee.

Become national focal point to coordinate the works between international organisations :

(i)    ASEAN Community Statistical System (ACSS) Committee;
(ii)    Asian Development Bank (ADB) International Comparison Program (ICP) for Asia and the Pacific;
(iii)    United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Civil Registration and Vital Statistics; and
(iv)    ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP).
