1-2-Compare
The 1-2-Compare is an initiative to promote the habit of comparing prices and available choices for household items in the marketplace. This initiative allows consumers to exercise their right to compare and get the best value for money. Prices for over 180 household items are voluntarily submitted by an average of 60 business premises monthly. The price list for the 1-2-Compare initiative is featured in the PenggunaBijak mobile application.
The household items are selected based on spending pattern obtained from the Brunei Darussalam Household Expenditure Survey. The list includes items such as butter and margarine, canned preserved food, fresh chicken and eggs, condensed milk, evaporated milk, beverages, noodles, flour, shallots, formulated powdered milk, cooking oil, sauces, infant diapers, and detergents.
The Department of Consumer Affairs does not control the prices of items listed in the 1-2-Compare initiative, except for items regulated under the Price Control Act, namely cooking oil and formulated powdered milk, and items covered by the Seasonal Maximum Price Setting initiative, such as whole chicken and eggs. The prices of other items are set by the businesses themselves without the Department’s intervention. Businesses may determine different prices for their goods based on factors such as costs variations and the influence of market demand and supply. Businesses are encourage to offer competitive prices.
Businesses interested to participate in the 1-2-Compare initiative may contact the Department via email at dca@jpes.gov.bn.
